S1 - E15 - Henry Patterson - Part Two - “Are Tentacles Feet?”
Ever wondered what it feels like to find out your favorite fragrance has been discontinued? This week, my co-host, Henry, and I are confronted with just that! We kick things off discussing our recent fragrance choices and the things we got told off for this week. We also share some exciting news about our listeners in Albania and introduce our new segment, 'Things We Got Told Off For This Week'.
We then dive into a lively chat about the joy of receiving gifts in the post and our favorite drinks. We also share a hilarious conversation with Johnny Mac about one of our favorite musicals. We reflect on the transition from being a guest to a staff member at Potters, exploring Henry's first experience compared to his current one. It’s amazing how gifts, drinks, and Potters have the power to evoke strong memories and emotions!
As we move on, we reminisce about family trips abroad and discuss the importance of finding the right break. We talk about the charm of quiz nights and the appeal of a weekend in June. We also touch upon the power of laughter, the joy of escapism, and how something as simple as pottery can have a huge impact on people's lives. Join us as we engage in fire questions about dressing up, desert island choices, and discuss the controversial scoring system of the ABC quiz. All this, peppered with our usual banter, makes for an episode you shouldn't miss!
Henry, go on. Then what did happen last night?
Speaker 2:Well, jack, whilst I was leaving the dressing room, i Realized that I had packed my bag, because I have a little tote bag that I take into the dressing room sometimes. And anyway, i I packed my tote bag up of all my things I use for the shows, and then I went Back to my what things do you use for the show? I come manifesto refresh a spray L'Oreal Col' Korean my technique art styling.
Speaker 1:Do you think that that stuff? do you think, does the? anybody notices that, though? What's the point of all of?
Speaker 2:that, oh, everyone notices, and also for they do various fragrances that the dancers often pick up on When they're going it's only because you invade their nostrils on stage. They say it's amazing. Lucy is obsessed with it. No, and so is Jess Maynard.
Speaker 1:I'm a little bit Sorry. We're just talking about fragrances. I had some devastating news this week that my Main fragrance that I use, which is Giorgio Armani Aquedia Gio, something like that.
Speaker 2:It's just been discontinued. But I've told you, jack, you must look on eBay because I think my mom, she, she wears son occasionally, which is a very Rare find son. Yeah, it's a very inexpensive perfume, but It's just a very Rebecca Patterson scent.
Speaker 1:Yes, it's interesting when you adopt a scent.
Speaker 2:I think she adopted at an airport, i believe, because that's often when people adopt sense it's going on holiday. That's a later task.
Speaker 3:Yeah.
Speaker 2:It's a task for later.
Speaker 1:Of course I don't know. I thought you were gonna tell me more about that story, so I thought I had time no, i am.
Speaker 2:So I then got back to my room. I realized I Brought back the wrong tote bag.
Speaker 1:Oh, what was in your tote bag?
Speaker 2:So to put my washing in it.
Speaker 1:Well, this brings me on to a new little segment I think we're gonna start adopting, because yeah, especially going forward into season two as well. This is gonna become a regular thing, you know, you know Not our previous episode, obviously, because this is part two of the two-part Henry episode. We had the special yesterday. But in our Mike Scott appraisal episode we did talk about being told off, and This brings me to a nice new little segment that we're gonna call.
Speaker 2:Things we got told off for this week. This week, jack, i put my personal washing in the Atlas Theatre washing machines. I was told off very much.
Speaker 1:This week, henry, i failed to look at the rotor correctly And forgot that I was on a morning quiz that I'm not not usually on. I Missed that morning quiz. I was told off very much. And that concludes things we got told off for this week. We just want to be open and honest, because none of us are perfect no, no, no, and I feel like You're following our journeys And you're following our careers.
Speaker 2:So if we get fired, you'll realize.
Speaker 1:This is why anyway, this is another episode, so this is actually your main part of the episode. This is where we find out your perfect potter's break. Yeah, only 24 hours ago I was speaking before We do get into that, though, because legendarily, we are the number two podcast in Hopton on C, but we in Albania, all the way I know, we've talked about.
Speaker 3:Albania yeah, I'll be near.
Speaker 1:Wow, I know we've talked on the podcast before that we have listeners in Bulgaria. Well, I can confirm Albania. You did a little bit of research, didn't you? I did. We are the number seven comedy podcast In Albania in the whole of Albania hold of the whole of the comedy genre Seven. I'm not sure if there's only seven comedy podcasts in Albania, but we are the number seventh comedy podcast, so Hello.
Speaker 2:Albania, or should we say Miracevini, in a podcast in exclusivity.
Speaker 1:If you are listening in Albania, just just try and message one of us In Albania, probably on Instagram, to let us know if that actually made any sense what Henry just said. The Henry P or at Jay Jenkins 117.
Speaker 2:What a plug or give us a thread or give us a thread at the Henry P at Jay Jenkins 117.
Speaker 1:I know we've just jumped on the thread bandwagon recently.
Speaker 2:We're, we've we've pulled on that thread, we've dived in Yeah like the needle diving into that.
Speaker 1:I just know no one's gonna get that we're we're sewing our future in that social media platform.
Speaker 2:We're yeah.
Speaker 1:No, i've had enough if you could cotton on to it. Wow, it was um, it was impressive, thank you need to say a big thank you because, um, again we are now. We will keep receiving gifts through the post, and we need to say thank you to a few people, um, but mostly to, to gordon woods.
Speaker 2:Thank you from the world bowls tour.
Speaker 1:He has sent us some lovely t-shirts with puffins on with puffins on and on the back. It does say the all exclusive podcast, the number two podcast in hopton on c. On, c on, c on c. So a big thank you to you, gordon gordon on c for sending that and that. That's come from all the way from, sort of from Glasgow.
Speaker 2:The postal service really has lived up to its usual standard with that.
Speaker 1:They have. I don't know when he sent it because that's true.
Speaker 2:He said a month ago Yeah, who knows, in the yin wall episode.
Speaker 1:I. I was sent some important house documents that I had needed to have signed for my, for my um House well, for my house, yeah for the deposit. And they turned up three days late. Nice that must have been really helpful. It was really helpful. I went into the.
Speaker 2:I have a. You know I spoke about It might even be in this episode, i do. I speak at the end of this episode about my hack it delivery with clothes yesterday. Parcel force Were meant to deliver it between five and six. He just wouldn't leave gallstone, so it then like he was just stationary, old peter from parcel force. Yeah so He never came, got returned to the depot. It now says again today will be delivered between five and six. It's once again in gallstone.
Speaker 1:Don't take it out on peter. You don't know what happened to him.
Speaker 2:Well, no, i know, but I just could have been set upon by youth. I really wanted my shirt for my set this afternoon and I've got two hours And I just let me just go on the tracking now and see what, whilst you do that, you start to improve this episode.
Speaker 1:Yeah, that just doesn't hack it, does it it doesn't know. No, anyway, let's get into the main body of the episode. This is episode 15, henry Patterson, part two of the all exclusive podcast.
Speaker 2:I'll do it this time, jack, no, no, i don't care. No, no, it's press what no, it what. Press play press jack press play, play, click. Did you do it at the same time?
Speaker 1:press play. That was lovely. Obviously, a lot of people would assume that you'd go for a pink gin and lemonade. You've not decided to go for a pink.
Speaker 2:I would have gone for a pink gin and lemonade, or a malibu and pineapple.
Speaker 1:Is that?
Speaker 3:your new? is that your new? I'm sorry, i'm just fine. both drinks as horrendous, so am I writing down? not the pink gin and lemonade.
Speaker 2:Well, you get so well, today I actually went for hot chocolate because it was a rainy day. Um, yes, but daytime rainy morning.
Speaker 3:No one would drink during the day, would they really? I mean, i probably would.
Speaker 2:Yeah, jack definitely would. If I didn't have to drive I would jack pub crawl starts at like 10 Um you like you could drink, don't you?
Speaker 3:I do enjoy when it's a day off. You don't mind, i could drink.
Speaker 1:Well, I am more of a social drinker.
Speaker 2:I like going to the pub and checking my friend out one of my favorite days was when me, jack and Rosie went to what what's that pub called The you know, the one that we entertainer.
Speaker 1:That know, we do walk through barricasal. We have gone to the entertainer, but no, we went to, we went to barricasal, all right. And then the I can't because you can't get there.
Speaker 2:Can you know it was like being an Oklahoma.
Speaker 3:Yeah, it was the one that overlooks the, the, the broads and yeah, walks, you can only get there by boat, really can't you I?
Speaker 2:cornfields and windmills, and I just kept wanting to go. there's a bridegarden, he's on the middle.
Speaker 3:Yeah, I would have. I would have been doing it as well. Head.
Speaker 2:We would have been great, me and mark, were we. I went for a drink with Johnny Mac that Jack wasn't invited to the other day.
Speaker 1:I wasn't by it, i was just working. No, you want.
Speaker 2:some of us have to work, henry and Mark and I Sat in the car and poor Johnny Mac doesn't really know where songs are from And me and mark just kept going.
Speaker 3:well, we know we belong to the land and the land we belong to his grand, And when we say Hi if I owe you? Yeah, we're only saying you're doing fine, oklahoma Okay.
Speaker 1:And did Johnny Mac go? oh yeah, i really like Phantom of the Opera.
Speaker 3:It might.
Speaker 1:He did say something like he didn't know where that was from and I said we literally just.
Speaker 2:What will we just say? right, so yeah.
Speaker 3:I'm talking about drinks. Yeah, what happened to the Malibu?
Speaker 2:Oh, that was. that was last night. It was with Ed watching Lucy set, I mean we could have gone for a Malibu and Pineapple is both our day off today. It is. We aren't even working.
Speaker 1:No, maybe we'll do that when we go for lunch afterwards.
Speaker 2:Yeah, i'll have a man, We'll have a cocktail, oh my god.
Speaker 1:Yeah, let's do that We've discussed your first experience of potters. Yeah, um, previously, obviously, um, so we're not going to go too much into that? Yeah, no, just um, how different is it though? Well, let's, let's talk about this, because how is it now working for here, as opposed to being coming here as a guest?
Speaker 2:I'm very glad you asked me this question, because last time I was asked this question was On hour three of Roxy's episode, where I was really drunk, So I never answered it Um we probably did, it just inaudible Probably no, actually.
Speaker 2:I remember what I said and like it couldn't be used. Um, so anyway, it's amazing. I think it's What people maybe don't realize. I was expecting to maybe have Some of the paint stripped away and the magic lost a little bit, but that's It. Couldn't be further from the truth. I enjoy it more as a staff member than I do a guest.
Speaker 1:Yes lovely by such a long way and to go sort of a bit of a tangent, do you know who's really really lovely brings a really lovely atmosphere? Sue Driscoll on the bus. she's recently joined us on the bus. she was last year's Facebook fan of the year.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I know, you mean she is she's brought such a lovely energy.
Speaker 1:She's a joy. She's such a lovely human being And she listens to the podcast. She did well shout out to you, sue, sue you are literally amazing and it's really lovely to see someone who has been coming here for a guest and still will continues to come here as a guest. She's telling me she's booked in for in two weeks time and and just how excited she is to be here every single day and it's lovely to to see see a team member cycles?
Speaker 1:Yes, she does it's nice and it just sort of shows that six foot one C, because you must have seen it over the years mark loads of people who came as a guest and then come and to start working in general.
Speaker 3:No, i mean, i think I think people do it. I think potters has always been sort of a family, sort of staff wise, and it was more so in the early period, and what and the reason why I say that? it was because it was only open for 20 odd weeks a year, so everybody came and we all came, got together, and we was never a team that was separate to the the other stuff, you all together, we're all part of it, and we involved all the stuff and where people like Buzz would do a late night disco.
Speaker 3:Well, he, his disco was early morning disco and sometimes all the way through. Well, it's usually. It was basically a handful of guests and the rest was staff that were doing the morning. So we we had this incredible relationship, but it was because we all we're all getting on for about 20 odd weeks a year.
Speaker 2:Well, i think it's not evident now, after this being the 14th or well, whichever episode this is, because I know my part one was would have been 14. But you know, i'm sure it's evident in this podcast how well we all get on as a team. We spend so much time. You know, we spend all of our days off with each other, whether we like it or not.
Speaker 1:But we look at us now.
Speaker 2:Yeah, but you know we are pretty acceptable as a team again, whether we like it or not. But at the end of the day and I know we've said this a thousand times and it is a cliche saying that we're like a family, but it can be more true. I mean we, we live together, work together, we have the family. you know domestics all the time. Me and Jack are constantly fighting.
Speaker 1:You do. He's a little brother I never wanted.
Speaker 2:Yes, but equally, we all love each other very much, isn't that right, jack?
Speaker 1:I actually am going to admit it is your episode. I'll be nice to you. Don't necessarily want this on record, but yes.
Speaker 2:I've just realized at the end of this, so I get to answer who would I rather take on holiday, you or Mark? Yes, amazing, and it will be you, jack, because I don't know That. Now, right, let's get going.
Speaker 3:So you love the different solidisation staff. In fact that you actually the magic of all the staff.
Speaker 2:I've never had a huge holiday, so I used to come here with my mom, my dad and my grandma.
Speaker 1:really, That's sort of goes on to our next question. Yeah, you know the format by now.
Speaker 2:Yes, i'm aware of how the podcast, but I used to come here with my mum, my grandma, my dad and we never had a huge family so I never had. You know the whole thing of you see big families and trying to think of a good example now And they'll sit in a massive group. And you know, now I get to experience that from a staff point of view and I know you will like family. You know I know a lot of you better than I know some of my family anyway. So it's lovely at the end of an evening to just go and sit in the garden bar or the bowl is bar and just talk and just have a great time. It's just really, really lovely.
Speaker 1:We're talking about big family groups And one of the first questions we ask people on this podcast is what's the first thing you do when you arrive on resort? So what would you do for your perfect potters break?
Speaker 2:So I was very much when I used to come. I was very much. the first thing I do is get a highlighter in the program, very first thing I do like that's, by the way, that's while still stood at reception. Yeah, i like the program Um, so it would very much be that, followed by I mean, when I was younger, i think, I just used to try and find Mark actually. Yeah, it would be the first thing I would do.
Speaker 3:Wow. Yeah, there's a new one, but you would never see me till the the early.
Speaker 2:No, so I was ever came in for the dinner.
Speaker 3:I was just a kid. I would probably go find someone to annoy I.
Speaker 2:I used to really annoy Aaron Bolton when I was on resort Um how, the how the tables are, i'm telling you, but because he used to sell bingo tickets outside the Atlas doors when it used to be from a little cash box.
Speaker 1:Is he really?
Speaker 2:Yeah, and I used to go up to him and sing show tunes at him and like follow him around, um, so I think I'd probably be doing that, so I would go and grab a drink and then would still sit with the editor. It's programmed. There's something lovely about sitting with family going through the program.
Speaker 1:Planning all the things you're going to do together.
Speaker 3:I just catch. I always catch people doing that. You always judge people's choices as well.
Speaker 2:Like in August. I'm really excited. I'm so excited My grandma, my uncle, my mom, my dad are coming. When I'm so excited about is my grandma, my mom and my uncle Marcus used to come to potters in the 80s when they were very, very young. Now they've not been as a trio and they've not been on holiday, just just kind of those three and my dad of course. But they've not done that since then And they're coming back this year to kind of recreate that which is so, so lovely. Cause my mom remembers, you know, the old kind of when the children would be sent off to the bungalows at, you know, at the end of the evening with good luck children. And you know she remembers all of that, she remembers the rambles. I've kind of got this history of potters which is far deeper than it kind of may seem on surface value.
Speaker 1:What sort of breaker are you booking on for? What's the? what's your favorite time of the year, and is that? has that been influenced by working here? Yes, i think I know what you're going to say.
Speaker 2:You're going to say actually um, maybe I, maybe you do, maybe you don't I don't actually know. So I'm going to have to do a quick rapid fire and this I think that's exactly what Mark did, So we may end up with the same thing If we actually don't know. So I actually weirdly enjoyed Sir Rock Weekend.
Speaker 1:Right, no, no, no no because not many people experience.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 3:I'm not. Not many people even know what that means. Yeah, sir, rock Weekend, it's a silent disco which would make my entire life.
Speaker 1:I knew you would say it just for the silent disco, the silent disco was an incredible night.
Speaker 2:Um, but I wouldn't take Sir Rock otherwise, Um, but I really enjoyed Sir Rock Weekend.
Speaker 2:Um New Year's Eve was a amazing night because, I've never done a big New Year's Eve really but, we used to have kind of fairly intimate New Year's Eve's um in staying in, which, which are lovely Um, but last last year was amazing, a lot, a lot of fun. The actual Christmas break itself again was very fun because that was my first Christmas day away from home, but again because I was with family, it didn't feel like I was away And I'm starting to enjoy summer more.
Speaker 1:We're not even at summer yet, but yeah.
Speaker 2:I really have enjoyed the past few weeks Actually the warm weather without children Love that.
Speaker 3:But the weird thing is you already answered initially that your favorite time was August, when you came as a child. And what you look forward to, but now you're looking at as a working, so you actually are reflecting it more as the fact that how much you enjoyed. I would probably break you enjoyed, but working with, which is, I was found was difficult after 40 years to explain anything like that.
Speaker 2:Well, i was about to say I would do a weekend in June, but I realized, mark, it's not here for June.
Speaker 3:No, that's good.
Speaker 2:So, in fact, actually, i definitely do a weekend in June. Um, i would do a weekend in June if Mark could be here, so I would request Mark to be in and I do a weekend in June. That's the break I'd go on. Oh wow, it's very specific.
Speaker 3:That is so specific, but why in June, though? What was?
Speaker 1:June No, we've got the South Terrace open.
Speaker 3:I can see that.
Speaker 2:Yeah, South Terrace is open. There are no children here.
Speaker 1:Just to make it clear I don't think it's been clear enough so far Henry doesn't like children. I don't dislike them.
Speaker 2:I think you're making it a little bit clearer. I don't dislike them.
Speaker 1:Um, what's the first thing you do in the first bit on the morning on resort? Then what's the first thing you've woken?
Speaker 2:up on resort. Okay, um right, so I don't wake up very early. No, we know that, as previously discussed, But whenever I have family or friends here, I do try and make breakfast.
Speaker 1:Can I just say I walk part because we live next door to each other. Yeah, yesterday I was out, i was up early, i went for a walk. Oh, did you hear my alarm?
Speaker 1:The alarm was just going off and it was on a bit of a loop and I was. I was so tempted to just start banging on the window, but I thought if I did that then he might try and join me on my walk. So I just ignored you, but it was going off for some time, but you can hear my alarm chorus.
Speaker 2:Yeah, i sleep through many an alarm.
Speaker 1:Yeah, i can, i can tell Um, yeah, it just really made me chuckle.
Speaker 2:Yeah, no, you'll hear it a lot, because then also I have my iPad and my phone, are both sets, then there are two alarms that then start going off. Still doesn't wake me up.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 2:I basically wake up naturally to the sound of alarms. Yes, That's it. The alarms are just how. I know that I should be waking up at that time, but I don't actually wake up at them. So I'll wake up be the last in breakfast, 100%. then we'll try and catch a quiz. I actually do love a quiz. I try and catch my own geography quiz and I would have me hosting it, Um unbearable.
Speaker 2:No, I would. I would try and catch some kind of quiz. I actually am not bothered what the quiz is, as long as it's not TV or sport TV quizzes. I find a little bit. I'm fairly niche in the TV. I watch that I'm not good at escape to the shadow mostly. Yeah, i'm not good at anything else. Um, so kind of things like that and like sport is just terrible. But anything else I would enjoy and I probably do, okay, at lunchtime. Special is a definite Yeah Has to be done.
Speaker 1:Have you got a favorite lunchtime, special one that you remember or one that you have?
Speaker 2:been a part of Be the entertainer.
Speaker 1:Yes, okay, has to be the one.
Speaker 2:That's the one I remember the most And, like the letter, i game as well.
Speaker 3:Not many people remember that because it was a Johnny Cleveland event or wonderful event maybe that much.
Speaker 2:I loved that game.
Speaker 3:But that was totally what's the word. You never knew what people were going to say.
Speaker 2:I called Johnny out, though. Yeah, yeah, i chose um in Paradisum four-way requiem.
Speaker 3:And you thought that Johnny, yes, but he would have tried to know, that He tried, he would have pretended to know.
Speaker 2:He tried, or maybe it was even the Darufle requiem, i can't remember, because four is a little bit more famous.
Speaker 1:It's got the, so I'm so special as finished. Yes, what are you going to go for for lunch? For lunch, okay. So I'm going to say it now. I think a bit of coronation chicken right, yeah. Because at the moment, mean you've got this weird obsession with the coronation.
Speaker 3:I can't believe you have, because that's all I normally have. We don't have a word. It's a constant obsession, it's not at the moment It's like always.
Speaker 2:Yeah, um, you can count on me that I'm well experienced in the Potters of Resorts lunch department. Oh yeah, you certainly are, because it is what I have lived on for the past like 15 months. So, uh, yeah, i, my lunch is coronation chicken, a bit of lettuce, because if I have salad it has to have a dressing and we don't have a balsamic glaze. Maybe for next summer we can have a balsamic glaze.
Speaker 1:Maybe I'll just buy you your own for your birthday.
Speaker 2:Oh my God, i love a balsamic glaze And I've got my condiments back. Um so anyway. coronation chicken, maybe some ham, some lettuce, some sweet corn, some cucumber and some chips. That's my lunch.
Speaker 1:Done Shall, we do it then, mark, do you want to? It's the moment you keep trying to bring in.
Speaker 3:Are we going to do the ABC? I've been waiting to do the ABC quiz.
Speaker 1:This is good, this is, this is.
Speaker 3:Do we not count what you did in the afternoon? and then No, no, no, it was a favourite show I was like how's this going to work?
Speaker 2:Well, i was going to leave this to happen.
Speaker 1:No, no, no no, i can't wait to see.
Speaker 2:I'm just going to leave this to happen.
Speaker 1:So yes, it is that time You tell your lover quiz. You know what's happening here, so it's just. I'm just going to see what happens. Yeah, it is now time for the ABC quiz. As you know, stands for No idea, No.
Speaker 3:Well, what does ABC the ABC stands for? It stands for anything but correct. I'm writing it down because I don't listen to it enough. Thanks, Mark.
Speaker 2:That was really weird for me.
Speaker 1:The ABC stands for Anything but correct As you know, how do you feel about this?
Speaker 2:Oh my God, I'm actually really nervous. It's weird, isn't it? Oh, this is horrible.
Speaker 1:This is weird. So anyway, I know I'm dreading mine.
Speaker 2:Okay.
Speaker 1:Here we go. As you know, you've got 48 seconds on the clock, not 48 minutes. Thank you, as Sean had, here we go.
Speaker 3:Who's doing the 48 seconds? I'm.
Speaker 2:Mark, please make sure you write down all my answers, okay.
Speaker 3:Yes, I will Making space.
Speaker 2:Yeah, i usually move my microphone fully out the way, so if you want to do that, you can No.
Speaker 3:No, because I probably would stop you Right.
Speaker 2:Okay.
Speaker 1:Here we go. I just want to. You can't see this right now, but Henry is just cringing watching.
Speaker 2:Mark, i'm on him, i just know the way I do this and it's just. This is really.
Speaker 3:I'm not stressing you out.
Speaker 2:Yeah, don't get stressed. Have you pre-written the numbers down?
Speaker 3:Would you? How many numbers would you?
Speaker 2:like Write down 15.
Speaker 3:You won't get to 15. No.
Speaker 2:I know that I always do it as a precaution Right.
Speaker 3:Now 15 numbers Eight, nine, ten, i'm doing ten. Okay, right, do ten, but I put 11 just in case you get past.
Speaker 2:The example question is if we were to say it's the sky, what color is the sky? I would say red and it would be wrong. That's how I play the game.
Speaker 1:Yeah, that wasn't a starting. Here we go 48 seconds. Start Now. In one word describe Diana the musical.
Speaker 2:Amazing.
Speaker 1:What is your name? Boris Name, a type of bird you see at Hopton Beach, lion. What is the first man? Who was the first man on the moon?
Speaker 2:Marpira.
Speaker 1:What would you wear on your feet? Tentacles What animal is Miss Piggy?
Speaker 2:A dolphin.
Speaker 1:What noise does an elephant make? What's the opposite of up Left? Name something you'd put in a sandwich Mike Scott. What color is an orange? Green? Name a vegetable Trees. Who is the king?
Speaker 2:The Patelapone.
Speaker 1:Name the fairy tale, jack and the Hat. That is the timer, but I will give you another question Just what are the six colors of the rainbow?
Speaker 2:Gray And Off-white And Egg shell.
Speaker 3:This is the worst answer.
Speaker 2:And And fawn And claret And And And terracotta.
Speaker 1:Well done, Henry Paterson. Thank you very much.
Speaker 3:Was that too tough? that last one.
Speaker 2:Yeah, what the hell was that? Do I get six points for that. No, what.
Speaker 1:No, mark just wanted to throw in an answer that would really make you struggle, because you have to think of six colors and literally you've thought of gray, off-white egg shell, fawn, claret terracotta.
Speaker 3:It's really like.
Speaker 2:I got six there, do you?
Speaker 3:not think that you've gone gray again. Well, it's all like dull colors, isn't it?
Speaker 1:You'd get a thought one. I just want to say I put that one at the end there.
Speaker 2:It was a kind of Kelly Hoppin color palette. It was a bonus yeah. So how.
Speaker 3:Well, you didn't make a mistake. What was the animal's noise? That was a puffin sound. What noise does an elephant?
Speaker 1:make in you. It's definitely a puffin sound, because this is the sound of our sponsor puffin Patti LaPuffin.
Speaker 2:And this is me.
Speaker 3:We expected you to do well.
Speaker 2:to be honest, Can you move the mic back to your mouth please?
Speaker 3:We expected you to do well, henry, and there wasn't really Diane and Musical Amazing. I was going to give you a bonus because I know Thank you.
Speaker 2:That would have pained you It would have really upset you to say that I was going to say well, i didn't realize that was true.
Speaker 3:And then we would have done minus points and we'd know how you feel about that. But So in fact, all together you've got a whopping.
Speaker 2:Hang on. Sorry have I only got one bonus point.
Speaker 3:Yeah, there was nothing that I was really impressed with.
Speaker 2:Not even my noise of the elephant.
Speaker 3:No, I thought that was an awful sound. I thought of any sound that was You're giving me one bonus point.
Speaker 2:I've not given a single guest. One bonus point.
Speaker 1:Well, there was. You did say name a type of bird you'd see on Hopton Beach, and you said lion which is not a type of bird.
Speaker 2:That's the point. Is there anything but correct?
Speaker 1:No, but you could have said puffin, because we know you wouldn't have seen a puffin on Hopton Beach.
Speaker 2:I did see a puffin on Hopton Beach.
Speaker 3:Or a flamingo Right.
Speaker 1:What was?
Speaker 3:your tentacles about.
Speaker 2:Oh, come on, that's a bonus point.
Speaker 1:What would you wear on your feet? tentacles. Do we have a bonus point for that?
Speaker 3:No, because it's not realistic. But that's the point. No, but tentacles.
Speaker 2:Who let this? Greg? can I mark my own? No, can I mark my own? No tentacles. Is that my own? It's my own.
Speaker 1:That's the point for me, because you wouldn't put on your feet.
Speaker 3:Tentacles That's the point. No, but you could put anything on your feet. What would you put on your feet, Mark, A TV, What See? what would you put on your feet? Something outrageous. What's wrong with you Tentacles is still. It's actually It's off foot. Where is it? No, but they still could be. Your feet could be tentacles. You could have long toes, Henry.
Speaker 2:That's not a tentacle, that's a long toe.
Speaker 3:Yes, that's why I don't. I never gave you any bonus for that.
Speaker 2:Right, what do I end with?
Speaker 3:You ended up with. He looks really sad on this 12.
Speaker 2:Oh, for goodness sake.
Speaker 3:I haven't added, i haven't done the colors I've done one above Johnny Mack.
Speaker 2:Like one place above Johnny Mack.
Speaker 3:No, no. Well, you only got 11. And then you had the grey egg shell fawn. claret that.
Speaker 2:And you know I'm going to give you one point. What's got got? 19.5?.
Speaker 3:So I'm going to give you 13 points. Unlucky for something. Thank you, Mark, for that. I wasn't really impressed. I would have liked you to be bright colours Any other bright colours back What You went? grey egg shell fawn.
Speaker 2:That's not your job. That's not what we're here to do.
Speaker 3:I'm just saying, it just shows you the mood you were seeing Henry.
Speaker 1:We're moving on to the afternoon.
Speaker 2:Yep.
Speaker 1:Is there any sort of afternoon activities, like when you came as a guest? obviously you said nothing really too sporty in terms of the quiz round, but did you take part in any of the activities?
Speaker 2:We well champsour. I think I ever took part in that. I think I just watched it, but now of course I do. I used to do buzzer's treasure hunt a lot, go to the arcade with stolen money from newspapers, of course. But no, so I'd probably do the two o'clock quiz Definitely. Hoy Bingo. Yes, I wouldn't actually do a single activity. I don't think Crazy Golf, that soft program, I get that.
Speaker 1:No, but that's still relevant.
Speaker 2:And then my grandma and I would often walk to the beach to go and spot seals.
Speaker 3:Did you spot many seals?
Speaker 2:Yeah, no, there's a photo of us. We saw a very arrogant, obnoxious seal, me and Jack.
Speaker 3:How did you know he's been arrogant?
Speaker 1:He just felt the connection with him. So that's I mean quite a wide range of different things. You do sort of both off.
Speaker 3:You never bought up the Street Fair, which, of course, is infamous for you getting really in there.
Speaker 2:Well Street Fair, of course. Well, i remember caking you.
Speaker 3:I know, but you get on a cake now You do fall in love with it. Before you came, Jack got a lot of cakes. I did, it's very true. It was funny how you irritated. At first it was Jack irritating everyone, and now it's Henry that irritates.
Speaker 1:We talked a lot about Street Fair previously and we said that maybe this year is the year of Brian. Now, since then, since then we've had a Street Fair and Brian got a cake. Can I just say how this happened.
Speaker 2:They chose Mark and then Brian, then reappeared because he was hiding And then Brian reappeared and then Jack and I ran up to this poor girl who just picked Mark and said we will pay you, we will do anything, pick Brian, change your mind and pick Brian. And she did, and she did, and she said I changed my mind, i picked Brian And Brian went into stocks and there's a photo that I often send on many of group chat.
Speaker 3:Do you just change your up? Brian made the fatal mistake of appearing after. Yes, he did While we were still saying I was still trying to get out of it. That was the point.
Speaker 1:You will notice that is a picture. You will notice that many team members do disappear by the time it comes to the cake. There's a bit of crazy golf, a bit of Street Fair and things like that Street Fair, champsour.
Speaker 2:What else do I do? Well, you have had a bit.
Speaker 3:You can't fit everything else in because you've already done the quiz. You've done the Champions Hour the H8, the Hoi Time the.
Speaker 2:Street Fair. We don't really do this podcast as a literal I have to be confined to the realms of time.
Speaker 3:I work it out from 2 o'clock. How are you going to fit all that in?
Speaker 1:This is his perfect break. This is an imaginary concept.
Speaker 2:This is not a literal. I would probably catch a live music set on the South Terrace as well, if that's okay with you, mark.
Speaker 3:Well, I do like the live sets.
Speaker 2:So that's okay. Do you think I'm going to put that one in?
Speaker 3:Are you doing it at the end of the afternoon though?
Speaker 2:Well, okay, to be honest, Mark, i don't really care what time I do it. I'm going to be honest with you. I'm not thinking too deeply into this, is there?
Speaker 1:anything else off-program that you do, there's nothing else off-program.
Speaker 2:Walk to Galston.
Speaker 1:It is a lovely walk. actually, it's a really nice walk. It is a lovely walk.
Speaker 2:And if any guest of a fancy is like an hour and a bit to walk.
Speaker 1:Yeah, and did you see I think it was on this morning as in the program this morning Highlighted, wasn't it? Galston is the best beach in the UK, number one beach, and I agree with that. I'm very biased, obviously, from being from the north. I agree with it too. It's such a beautiful beach.
Speaker 3:And they got a lot of our sand. One stormy weather.
Speaker 2:Our sand.
Speaker 3:Our sand at Houghton was stolen. The storm swept it out And you know what?
Speaker 1:caused it.
Speaker 3:And what The breaker? They got a lot of us The breaker. The break You know, they built a new break for the new harbour that we were getting. And the new break caused the sea to react differently, to go through, and the wind and the storm Talk all our sound. We woke up one morning. There was no sand on the beach This is true. This is true. We lost our And Galston apparently number one beach. It's half-Hopton's beach. I would argue with that.
Speaker 2:So you say Hopton's beach is actually number one beach.
Speaker 1:Well, it would be if we had any sand. So we're heading into the evening.
Speaker 2:Already.
Speaker 1:Heading into the evening. Is there any sort of dinner you like? Yeah, what should we go to dinner here at Potter's?
Speaker 2:You know we both love a pate.
Speaker 1:Oh yes.
Speaker 2:Bit of a sucker for a pate, aren't?
Speaker 1:we Yeah.
Speaker 2:Starter would be a pate.
Speaker 1:Could do with a pate today.
Speaker 2:But duck liver, Absolutely Duck liver pate Main course. maybe a steak Like a steak and chips kind of thing.
Speaker 3:Funny enough, I've never seen you eat steak.
Speaker 2:So when we go to New York, mark, you'll assume, in a new light. No, oh, like, coach, you're a really good flattened steak. What do I get really excited for? I've really liked, oh, that beef stew that we did The Galston-Bridge stew.
Speaker 1:No, that was the Galston-Bridge lamb.
Speaker 2:That beef stew was really good, so I'd probably have that, and then Stealing Mark's banoffee pie for dessert, and I mean having my own and then literally stealing his as well.
Speaker 3:One day they might bring it into it.
Speaker 2:We just started petitioning. I'm so excited because Mark and I and you can come to Jack if Sue lets us have all the holiday off at the same time.
Speaker 3:Did you know? after nearly 30 odd years I went back to Burgo, where I had the best banoffee pie to the beach restaurant there.
Speaker 2:I think Jialin will top it.
Speaker 3:And I went down there This is a couple of weeks ago. I said I've come for the banoffee pie And they gave me a banoffee pie, but it was obviously made already made in the you know Frozen.
Speaker 3:It was obviously ruined. And I said my whole illusion of the last. And then by pure luck, pure luck, i went to the Lighthouse restaurant where Keith Cousins runs and Fran owns it and Lagoa, Lagoa. And he turned around and I said and I jokingly went to the girl I'm really looking forward to my banoffee pie, because that's what I normally do at most restaurants and say see their faces when they're trying to say have we got banoffee? Anyway, this lady went of course and out came this incredible banoffee pie.
Speaker 2:But no, it would be banoffee pie for dessert. What question comes after that, Jack?
Speaker 1:Well, heading into the evening, Favorite show of all time to sit down and watch.
Speaker 2:Okay, so I think Don't forget, you go back. Yeah, no, showstoppers would be one.
Speaker 3:Yeah.
Speaker 2:It's between three actually.
Speaker 3:Yes.
Speaker 2:Showstoppers, obviously simply the best. Sorry it's a bit of a cliche, but it is.
Speaker 3:Nearly enough, everyone's gone for it, haven't they?
Speaker 2:And putting on the glitz as well. It's one of my favorites because I love that style of music And I really enjoy putting on the glitz And I adore being in it, because I just love singing that type of music.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 2:So it'd be glitz simply, or showstoppers.
Speaker 1:If you had to choose one.
Speaker 3:I'd choose one probably to round off, what was in showstoppers.
Speaker 2:Sorry.
Speaker 3:What was in showstoppers?
Speaker 2:That was like the Miss Saigon one.
Speaker 3:Yeah.
Speaker 2:But also I've got to say I would request. So I would probably choose glitz, actually only because I think that's a nice way to end a kind of evening. It's a very classy show. It's a very elegant show But I would have, in the middle of glitz, a little interlude with some of the old sketches, like the old Morris Dancing sketch with Mary. Yeah, the Wild West sketch I would throw a lot of. I would basically be glitz with an unleashed in the middle And with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is the.
Speaker 3:How bad was that.
Speaker 2:That was amazing. I watched a video. There's a video on YouTube of Jaco And I watched that the other day and the memories came flooding back and that was amazing.
Speaker 3:And when you think we have the summer of six weeks, we probably only did it three times, honestly, because it was too dangerous.
Speaker 2:I'd been there for the Jaco one And I just didn't know it was Jaco. But do you know what? I was stunned by how clean you were. I got away with it. How did you do that? I'm not sure You're wearing white trousers.
Speaker 3:Yeah, i came out as Willy Wonka. Yeah, and I really don't know how.
Speaker 2:Which is a wonderful name for you, isn't it Mark?
Speaker 3:Some of the guys totally chocolate all over from head to toe, tried to catch me, but they were fall over. Yeah, there was it so.
Speaker 2:It was honestly, I was laughing a lot.
Speaker 1:Have you got any standout memories of Potter? I know there's a lot with one over, and is there one? you can choose that you can sort of summarise very briefly, if that's possible for you.
Speaker 2:One of my favourite ones, my grandma. I used to call her grandma Pet, my dad's mum. She was from Newcastle. Why?
Speaker 1:I hate.
Speaker 2:Pet, yeah, and she would always call me Pet And she was just the most amazing, amazing, amazing woman And she came to live with us for the kind of last five years of her life And you know, she built an extension and she had a little kind of annex And we came here It was me, my parents and her, and it was the George and the Dragon, the Hairytale, followed by Patriotics. I've never seen her laugh so much. She found it just the funniest thing in the world.
Speaker 3:Yeah.
Speaker 2:And she was like you know, i'm not going to remember this, i'm going to remember this, And my mum often says it She looked over and she was like you know when you need to capture a memory and you make a conscious effort And I'm kind of getting emotional to talk about it now But you know, when you feel like you have to remember something And it's happened a few times in my life where you like look at memory and you think this is important and I need to remember this And she was so happy And, like the George and the Dragon thing, she was laughing so much And people liked it. That's it. So, um, i'm going to thank my parents And we were like all five, six, i'll be back with a hurry thing And I found a And I think that was like one of my favorite memories And whenever we do patriotics without fail, i think of my grandma. Pet sat on the left hand side of the room on the front row with her flag singing along as well.
Speaker 3:I think what you've said there describes a lot of people's other emotions and other people's feelings because I've heard it so many times.
Speaker 1:Beautifully captured that, yeah.
Speaker 3:I don't know how many people talk to me about nannies and, like nannies, died. now Our fondest memory is watching her laughing her head off. Whether it was Bullseye, whether it was the Champions Hour, whether it was obviously the unleashed that we turned into And I think that's.
Speaker 1:It's such a big thing And I think some people may say what we do is not saving lives, but I think you have to agree it is making, it's making lives and and it can make huge impacts to people.
Speaker 2:And I think, as you know, in in both parts of this episode or both parts of Mindful View today, i think, is evident that potters, as its entertainment form, can impact lives hugely, whether it's through what I'm doing now, which is Mark giving me the opportunity to go on stage and to sing, or making people just immensely happy. on either side, the entertainment department here is is a crucial heart of the business.
Speaker 1:And we really we do appreciate that knowledge, that, and you know what I mean we often, we often talk about this because we are incredibly lucky to do what we do and have the connections and the relationships of people that we do. You do have to sometimes just take a step back and look out and see people enjoying themselves and see people you know in that moment.
Speaker 2:And sometimes I think you, you take a moment, especially on doors, and I know it's happened recently and I won't get into too too, too, too, too too many details, but you know, you hear of people who may be going through a tough time at the minute or who aren't very well, or who have family who aren't well. life happens.
Speaker 2:Yeah right And we hear a lot of it on doors after a break of people saying I have had a really bad week Or I've got very run at the minute, or this has happened and this has happened, but tonight I let all of that go, yeah, and I laughed and I felt really happy and it's escapism. That's exactly what people come here for And it's very touching to be a part of that.
Speaker 1:Say it all the time in terms of that, that is the one thing we do. best is exactly that offer that little bit of escapism to just allow people just to get away from it and enjoy. Enjoy just their time. Come together I agree, but we've reached the last.
Speaker 2:We have last morning.
Speaker 1:Last morning on resort. There's a couple of quick fire questions.
Speaker 2:Oh, they're really.
Speaker 1:I'm sure you're, i'm sure you've prepped yourself for these.
Speaker 2:No, that's not happening.
Speaker 1:I really haven't Couple of quick fire questions. So first of all, Henry, are you a dress up or dressed down sort of person?
Speaker 2:Dress up without a shadow of a doubt.
Speaker 1:You are wearing pajama trousers? They're not pajamas.
Speaker 2:They're Ralph Lauren. Perhaps is for Wimbledon.
Speaker 1:If you were to be stuck on a desert island with any potters team member, who would it be and why?
Speaker 2:Can I choose one? Why am I asking this? I know the answer Yes. Is the answer yes?
Speaker 3:No, who would you take?
Speaker 2:One person One person on the desert. So yes, it's the answer. I'm not going to do Mark Bruin say Celia Poster, although I do think Celia and I would have a wonderful time.
Speaker 3:Yeah.
Speaker 2:Talking about a mess scarf, so maybe it would be Celia, actually.
Speaker 3:They are See how we do it.
Speaker 2:Roxy and I would have a lot of fun. Who else? Rosie as well? Oh, okay, it's between Celia, roxy and Rosie.
Speaker 3:There you are, strange, i wrote down Roxy saying that You'll say Roxy.
Speaker 2:You want me to do predictions. I was like I like this.
Speaker 3:I put it down as a prediction Celia.
Speaker 2:It's like a misdremissive.
Speaker 1:The way he can read minds.
Speaker 2:I would probably go for Jules on bars.
Speaker 1:So you said I'm not going to do what Mark Bruin has done and just named the last person I spoke to And you've gone for Jules on bars.
Speaker 2:Love Jules She's so Mama. Jules, mama Jules, what a ledge.
Speaker 1:Any particular reason why.
Speaker 2:I just think she'd be a laugh, wouldn't she?
Speaker 3:You do know you're talking about me on a deserted island, though.
Speaker 2:Yeah, that's true. I'm fully aware of that. I'd go for Mama Jules. What? No, probably.
Speaker 3:She'd be very happy. Yeah, Mama.
Speaker 2:Jules.
Speaker 1:Don't doubt yourself. Not gonna doubt myself. What was the last thing you impulse bought?
Speaker 2:Oh, my God Okay.
Speaker 3:Got me your trousers innit, The trousers weren't impulse. You tell me that you bought those straight away.
Speaker 2:Impulse I was going to put on impulse. Tickets to parade on Broadway were fairly impulse.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 2:That was very quick. I just kind of added them in the basket. I've got this thing where I'll say, because I often go to the theatre with Mum and Claire, i often just say I've booked this, send me ex-money. But they've got no idea what I've just booked. Because there are some things that I'm just like, yeah, you have to see this, like we're gonna go and see Stephanie J Block at Caduggan Hall.
Speaker 3:Of course. Does that mean anything to you, Mike? Not at all.
Speaker 2:But also, yeah, I did a bit of a Hackett shopping spree the other day as well. Got that. That's arriving tomorrow.
Speaker 1:So close then.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:Yeah, what is the last thing you put into Google?
Speaker 2:So the last thing I put into Google is what train station was President Garfield shot at?
Speaker 1:You knew it was going to be something boring, didn't you? Disappointing, and what was the train station?
Speaker 2:It was the Potomac Railway Station.
Speaker 1:I didn't think that would get more boring but it has. Our final question Who would you rather take on holiday with you? Come on, henry, is it me or Mark? It's a hell of a call.
Speaker 2:So I'm conscious if I say Jack, I'm adding to the people who have said Jack.
Speaker 1:I knew you were going to say this.
Speaker 2:Now me and Mark are going to New York.
Speaker 3:Yes, we are.
Speaker 2:We're going to have an amazing time.
Speaker 3:Just for you to show me the best, benofi pie.
Speaker 2:That's really the reason I'm going.
Speaker 1:I want him to pick you.
Speaker 3:But now it's your call, henry, because God, you can't take Jules.
Speaker 2:Can I take Celia? OK, right, mark or Jack.
Speaker 3:It's a tough call, isn't it? And someone says that to you.
Speaker 2:Oh God, don't look at me. Stop looking at me. It's like being in an avatar. Honestly, It won't upset any of us. It's like being lousy off to slaughter. It really won't upset any of us, mark, i would choose you.
Speaker 1:Thank you, it would have upset me if you'd have chosen me.
Speaker 2:I'll tell you why as well. So you'd be more up for an impulsive theatre trip And I think you wouldn't oppose necessarily to some of the higher ticket prices, whereas Jack, i think, would be more concerned, because I can tell you that it's a song time musical and I think you'd be up to it, whereas Jack would go, but I'd actually want to see that. I'd rather spend money on you know boring things.
Speaker 3:Well, thank you. So is that the Henry interview on the first part.
Speaker 2:That's it. That's it, Mark. No, that's part one and two. God, no, we're not going to do another part, because that is a long, long hit That is it?
Speaker 3:Thank you guys. Thank you, henry Patrickson. You look, so it's going to take a very long time.
Speaker 1:That's been really weird, can I just?
Speaker 2:say That's been really strange. Yeah, i know that, yeah, and I'm just saying now, Jack, that when it comes to your episode, nothing prepares you for how weird this is. No, I really mean that Because I thought I'd be fine, but this is really strange. I'm really excited to be sat back on that side, and that was me.
Speaker 1:Once again. So there we go, henry. We've designed your perfect potter's break. How did that feel? I know we talked about it at the start of episode 14. Yeah, weird, but it was weird just sitting in the chair.
Speaker 2:Really weird, but I feel like I've had kind of practice So I knew what I was saying, because we always kind of think to ourselves, oh no, i wouldn't do that, or yeah, actually, i would definitely do that. Mark really planted those binoffee seed, binoffee pie seeds, not the binoffee seeds, oh, those classic binoffee seeds, clanted, clanted, clanted, the binoffee pie seeds, clanted those binoffee seeds In my brain. But yeah, jack, you're up next, i know.
Speaker 1:I'm a little bit nervous about it, to be honest. It's going to be interesting. This is one thing we need to talk about The ABC quiz.
Speaker 2:I mean, i think I'm going to get Lucy Hunt to independently judge mine, because we haven't done a leaderboard this week.
Speaker 1:So are you picking someone that you deliberately helped that?
Speaker 2:Well, normally we do the scores on the doors for the ABC quiz.
Speaker 1:Why don't we get an independent adjudicator?
Speaker 2:But I think we'll do that, maybe in the RAP party. Well, we'll have my scores on the doors, because I'm going to dispute that. Hence why we didn't have it in the episode, because I'm disputing that. I got one bonus point.
Speaker 1:You're quite offended by that, aren't you?
Speaker 2:No one else has been asked named six colours of the rainbow.
Speaker 1:That wasn't a serious question, that was just a little bit of fun at the end there.
Speaker 2:It's not meant to be for fun, this quiz, jack. It isn't meant to be fun, it's meant to be a game, it's a competition.
Speaker 1:Why I did that one on as a bonus question. Your time had gone out anyway.
Speaker 2:But you always ask people bonus questions and they always get included. That's like me saying I'm going to take away the three points I gave X.
Speaker 1:I could give you one point for that answer.
Speaker 2:I'd like six points, because I gave you six answers.
Speaker 1:Still wouldn't help you. Mark was quite a ruthless scorer.
Speaker 2:I would still get to 18. Sorry, mark, was quite a ruthless scorer. I would still get to 18, and I would be tying pretty high up the top.
Speaker 1:No, no, because you cheated to allow Mike Scott to go ahead. I hope you have enjoyed hearing us twice this week, twice Double, double dosage. A double billing Double billing of the all-exclusive podcast.
Speaker 2:Bah, bah, i'm going to. I think I should probably call Parcel Force and Peter, don't you think?
Speaker 1:Yeah, I suppose if that's important to you.
